Further rockfall protection works are to continue in Jamestown with funds from the Department For International Development .


The St Helena Government has increased its retirement age to 65 years. This means that persons between the age of 60 and 65 can apply for jobs with SHG. Persons employed in SHG can still retire at the age of 60 if they so wish.


The St Helena Government has announced a 4% pay award for Government employees and pensioners. This took effect from 1 April 2009.


Outsourcing is still moving forward on St Helena. The School Bus Contract has been put out to tender and the private sector was invited to tender for cleaning certain Government offices. Susan O’Bey, Contracts and External Services Manager said that these are all opportunities for the private sector.
