Post and Customer Service

Post & Customer Service

The Post Office and Customer Service Centre, a section of the Finance Directorate, located on the ground and first floors of the Post Office building on the main high street, of the island’s capital Jamestown, is managed by a Post and Customer Service Manager. The Manager is supported by an Assistant Postmistress, a Senior Customer Service Officer, an Administration Officer, four Customer Service Officers, a Senior Postal Clerk, three Messenger/Postmen and two Postal Clerks.

The Post Office provides for all of our local and international postal services; including a delivery service for Government internal mail. For the convenience of islanders living in rural areas, Sub Post Office’s have been set up within retail outlets around the island. These sub offices are visited by the Messenger/Postmen on a daily basis to deliver and collect mail from the outlying districts.

Along side of this, the main postal office will continue the sale of a variety of philatelic products. However, with effect from 31st March 2012 we will cease to operate the Standing Order Deposit Account (SODA) and online service for customers. This service will be provided by Crown Agents in the UK.

The Customer Service Centre has been established as a means of improving the efficiencies within Government and to provide a better service to the public.

A number of functions, previously delivered by various departments, have been brought together under one roof, providing a much more user friendly environment as a ‘one stop shop’ for customers. The Centre provides cashier facilities for the payment of various Government bills, licences and social benefits; registration amenities for benefits and social housing; an outlet for obtaining various application forms and information leaflets.

Key services provided at the Post office include:

• Provision of a local and international postal service

• Sale of various memorabilia and philatelic items through the Postal service

• Recorded delivery service for local post

• Registered service for international post

• Insured service for international post

• Private post box service

• Messenger service.

The Centre’s key activities are:

Administration
