The Police Department

The St Helena Police Department includes the Police Service, the Island’s Immigration Service, Prison Service, Fire and Sea Rescue Service, Traffic and licensing section and a Police Detachment on Ascension Island.

Reduction in crime and the fear of crime

Issuing St Helena passports

Processing yachts and their crew when visiting the Island

Referring applications for UK passports

Processing visas for the Republic of South Africa

Boarding ships for immigration formalities

Conducting emigration formalities

Preparing immigration statistics

Processing applications to become a British Overseas Territories Citizen

 

Fire and Sea Rescue

Emergency response to all fire and sea rescue incidents

Assist in the management and delivery of disaster management for the Island

Providing fire safety advice to all sectors of the community

Maintaining fire equipment for the public and private sector

 

HM Prison

Providing a prison service for convicted prisoners including a rehabilitation programme

Providing a remand centre for young persons

Providing police holding cells

 

Traffic Section

Ensuring the standard of vehicle testing centres

Examining Government vehicles for certification of road worthiness

Examining the competence of applicants for driving licences

Providing expert advice to police and the court on the construction and use of vehicles

Registering vehicles

Collecting payments for vehicle and drivers licences
