The Employment and Social Services Department

This department provides for the elderly, the unemployed, community workers and the disabled. The department is responsible for distributing all social security benefits and sources and delivers training for the unemployed. In addition, the department secures work placements, offers careers guidance, training and a work experience scheme including occupational therapy. The Employment and Social Security Department  also manages Government landlord housing and the community centres.

 The list of services is as follows:

Social Security Benefits

Carry out assessments and arrange payment of all social security benefits

Reassess clients on the benefits system

Implement Social Security Policies

Providing support to persons in need, who qualify

Monitoring and minimising social impact

 

Employment and Training

Facilitating local employment opportunities for the unemployed

Provision of career counselling for all students and the long-term unemployed

Management of the Community Workfare

Management of training programmes for the unemployed

Management of the Return to Work Scheme

Management of the Youth Work Experience Scheme

Management of the St Helena Government Job Centre
