The Agriculture and Natural Resources Department

The Agriculture and Natural Resources Department concentrates on the provision of supporting services for agriculture, the management of the St Helena Government’s Forest Estate and a Fisheries administration function. The Department also delivers an Environmental Conservation programme which concentrates on protecting and conserving the Island’s endemic flora and fauna and marine life.

The services provided to the farming community and members of the public include:

Nucleus stock and Artificial Insemination for livestock breeding programmes

A veterinary service for livestock and domestic animals

The control of stray animals

Quarantine for animals, plants, fresh fruit and vegetables

A pesticide spraying service

Bio-control agent breeding and release programme

The licensing and leasing of arable and grazing assets and agricultural buildings

Installation and maintenance of irrigation systems

 

Forestry and Conservation

Tree establishment and management

Tree surgery service

Endemic habitat and species conservation

Environmental monitoring and protection

Provision of fisheries data

Provision of fisheries technical advice

The administration of fishing licence applications
