SHG reported yesterday that the RMS St Helena has suffered a technical problem with the turbo-charger on her portside engine, meaning that the ship can currently travel on one engine instead of two, and necessitating a major repair.

EVALUATION OF EDUCATION SUPPORT PROGRAMME

ELECTIONS SURVEY RESULTS
Collated results from the Elections Questionnaire issued in August show that 76.8% of those who took part preferred to have one Constituency as opposed to the current East and West Constituencies, and 50.4% preferred the Voting Age to remain at 18 years.

ST HELENA INFLATION FALLS IN QUARTER 2, 2012
Annual inflation on the Retail Price Index fell from 7.6 per cent in Q1 2012 to 6.2 per cent in Q2 2012. This represents the lowest quarterly rate in a year.

HELP CUSTOMS & REVENUE STOP ILLEGAL IMPORTS AND TAX EVASION
The role of HM Customs and Revenue (HMCR) is to detect and stop the import of illegal and harmful items or substances being brought onto the Island - acting as the front line in protecting St Helena’s environment and society - and to collect lawful revenues and taxes, preventing and detecting smuggling and evasion.
ROAD CLOSURE
The Highway Authority has given approval for the road from Gordon’s Post to the Dungeon to be closed for two weeks from Monday 13th August 2012 to Friday 24th August 2012.

Tourism Update- Visitor numbers remain positive despite global downturn and airbridge capacity reductions

Medical Fees
The Directorate of Health and Social Welfare would like to inform those Households receiving Income Related Benefit under Transitional Protection rules, that only the household members who were correctly in receipt of Income Related Benefit before the 1st April 2011 will continue to be entitled to free prescriptions and will not be required to pay for any medical fees and charges.

Works are planned to trim back the bourgainvillea tree adjacent to the main entrance to the Castle.
Over the past few years the bourgainvillea tree adjacent to the main entrance to the Castle has grown considerably and this is now causing a problem to the structure and fabric of the Castle as well as harbouring pests
