Press Release: The Governor's Delegated Fund
4 March 2010
I am sure that there is a degree of public interest in how the Governor’s delegated Fund is actually spent. I am able to invest up to £30,000 in a financial year in support of projects and situations that are too small to qualify for a grant from the Overseas Territories Project Fund (OTPF). The administrators on Ascension and Tristan have a similar amount.
Over the past financial year I have been able to assist 17 projects including support for the St Helena Cricket Association in their worthwhile bid to actually become a player on the international stage as well as contributing to the costs of the Girl Guides visit to the UK to be present at the forthcoming centenary celebrations. More mundane but very useful was the purchase of fish bags for the St. Helena Fisheries Corp. There was also help for the New Horizons visit to Ascension and I have been delighted to be able to provide the money to re-furbish and maintain the tennis courts at Longwood and Ladder Hill.
