Modernising Social Security

15 January 2010

The St Helena Government is keen to modernise its system of social security, which supports over 800 people on the Island primarily through provision of benefits, which are quite similar to a state pension, and free health care. The overall aim is to have a social security system which meets the current and the future needs of the Island.

To help with this work, Alan Thompson, Finance Welfare Advisor, is arriving this month to work with officials and other stakeholders to look at ways in which the system can be improved.
