BASIL READ HOST SITE VISIT

22 June 2012

A comprehensive site visit was yesterday hosted by Basil Read, to allow a senior SHG team to see for themselves the Early Works under the Airport Project. The Mobilisation Phase for the project is drawing to a close and the works will shortly be entering the full and intensive Construction Phase.

The SHG Airport Project Team, Project Board Members and Legislative Council were able to view progress on the ground at Ruperts, Bradleys and Prosperous Bay Plain and to discuss forthcoming activities under the project. The rate of early progress was the common theme noted by the visiting party, and project workers were on hand to discuss the engineering challenges that lie ahead.

HE Governor Capes commented: 'I believe that everyone who took part in the tour was impressed at the progress made by Basil Read at the various construction sites, and also noted the positive and enthusiastic approach of Basil Read's employees, Saints and South Africans alike.

‘I am confident that the project will be delivered well and on schedule. Much has been achieved so far, and with the arrival shortly of their heavy equipment on the Basil Read ship, we can expect to see even more rapid progress in the months ahead'.
