CHIEF SECRETARY APPOINTED ACTING GOVERNOR

St Helena Government Chief Secretary, Owen O’Sullivan, is pictured taking the Governor’s prescribed Oaths of Office, in the presence of the Sheriff of St Helena, Harry Legg OBE JP, in the Governor’s OfficActing Governor and Sheriffe at the Castle, on Saturday 28 April 2012 - on his appointment as Acting Governor of St Helena. The Swearing In as Acting Governor becomes immediately effective.

HE Governor Capes departed St Helena for Ascension Island on 24 April 2012, to attend official business in London and on Ascension Island. Following His Excellency’s departure from Ascension Island for the UK on 27 April, Chief Secretary Owen O’Sullivan assumed the duties of Acting Governor, until Governor Capes arrives back on Ascension Island on 14 May 2012.

The Swearing In was witnessed by Councillors and senior officials and was followed by a brief reception. By convention, each person present shook hands with the Acting Governor.
