Nomination Day Approaches

23 September 2009

The St Helena Government is releasing, this week, a paper with information on nominating candidates to stand for election and on becoming a councillor. These papers will be included in both newspapers this Friday.

The deadline for receiving nominations to stand for election is noon on 21 October, which is less than a month away.

Speaking today, Returning Officer, Gillian Francis said that on previous occasions, all nomination forms had to reach the Returning Officer on a set day. However, she explained that things are now more flexible, in that nominations can be submitted as soon as the Writs are issued, right up until the closing date. While the deadline for submitting nominations is 12noon on 21 October Gillian said that people should be thinking now, about who to nominiate. She added that she is looking forward to receiving nomination forms from people who are keen to stand for election.

The nomination forms are available from the Office of the Returning Officer in the Castle and from Assistant Registration Officers.

Polling Day has been set for 4 November 2009.
