World Tourism Day

16 September 2009

World Tourism Day 2009 is just around the corner with 2009 being the 30th anniversary of this celebration.

The day will be celebrated on 27 September and the theme this year is “Celebrating Diversity”. St Helena Tourism will use the day to raise awareness, on the Island, of what St Helena has to offer as a tourism destination. This promotion will run from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September.

Gemma George, Acting Director of Tourism said “We are calling on the tourism sector to organise various activities, tours, exhibitions and promotions. The idea is to enhance tourism awareness, and to bring people together, providing them with the opportunity to sample the St Helenian product.”

People interested in setting up stalls on Saturday 26 September should contact St Helena Tourism as soon as possible to book a space.

Gemma said “We look forward to participation from the Tourism Sector. This is an opportunity to promote yourselves, your products and your services.”

Staff from St Helena Tourism are currently in the process of contacting people in the tourism sector to discuss the event further.
