Notes for Editors

The Marriage Bill seeks to update the institution of marriage by introducing same sex marriage. The other significant amendment is to allow the Registrar-General to approve premises other than places of worship for solemnisation of civil marriages, so long as some health & safety safeguards are in place.

The Sunday’s Observance (Amendment) Bill seeks to remove the restricted opening hours (10am and 6pm) of shops, stores and places of business on a Sunday. The Employment Regulations will reflect this and deal with remuneration for working on Sundays and on holidays.
