St Helenian Status

St Helenian status is unique to St Helena. You may have acquired St. Helenian status by right of birth or descent or you may apply for St Helenian status.

The rules around this are complex. The relevant paragraphs of the

British Overseas Territory Citizenship and Passports

If you think you qualify for British Overseas Territories Citizenship or wish to apply for a British Overseas Territories passport you should contact us on the email address below.

The following documents are required when making an application for a BOTC passport:

• Birth certificate

• Marriage certificate (if applicable)

• Two passport type photographs

• A of £40.00 for adults and 20.00 for children age 16 years and under is charged and is payable at the Customer Service Center

A BOTC passport application form is available from the Immigration office or the Customer Service centre situated in the Post Office building in Jamestown.

British Citizenship and Passports

If you wish to apply for British Citizenship, you should apply through the UK Border Agency by following this link:

For British nationals and British Overseas Territories Citizens, applications for British passports are processed through the Immigration Office.

For first time applicants the following documentation is required:

• Birth certificate

• Marriage certificate

• Two passport type photographs

• £83.00 (cheque or postal order)

• £18.00 (cash) handling charge

To renew a British passport the cost and handling charge is the same as a first time application. The application form is available from the Immigration office or the Customer Service centre situated at the Post Office building in Jamestown. You will need to bring your current passport to the Immigration Office but for a renewal you do not need the supporting evidence above other than two passort type photos. Please note that it takes three months to obtain or renew a British passport.

  1. I am interested in retiring to St Helena. I am unsure of my status as having St Helenian ancestry as according to my mother (72yr old) her father had St Helenian ancestry, but he died when she was 9yrs old. Her maiden name was Mulqueeny, is there any way I could trace her family to St Helena?
