Heavy Winds and Sea Conditions

The following is a Public Announcement from the Emergency Planning Department:

The Emergency Planning Department would like to advise the public that is it forecast for St Helena to experience increase wind speeds of 25 knots with gusts up to 60 knots in the evening of Thursday, 8 August 2019.

Wind conditions will vary around the Island and should subside on Friday, 9 August.

It is also forecast that St Helena will experience a large south westerly swell from Sunday, 11 August through to Tuesday, 13 August 2019. This may result in unsettled sea conditions in James Bay and Rupert’s Bay.

The public is advised to use caution when accessing the Sea Front area. To avoid damage to vehicles, drivers are also asked to take care when parking near the safety rails.

Due care and attention should be taken when swimming in Rupert’s and James Bay during this time.

All boat owners are advised to ensure their moorings are secured in these conditions.
