DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS THIS COMING WEDNESDAY
The electorate is reminded that the last day and time for receiving nominations to stand in this year’s General Election is 12 noon this coming Wednesday, 12 July 2017. All nominations should be delivered within this time to the Returning Officer, Mrs Gillian Francis, at the Castle, Jamestown.
If more than twelve nominations are received, a Poll will be taken on Wednesday, 26 July 2017.
Only those persons with their name on the Register of Electors effective from 1 July 2017 will be eligible to participate in the General Election, with those who are 21 years of age and over being able to stand for election.
Candidates will need to have two sponsors and five supporters who must also be on the Register.
Signatures will need to be witnessed. The sponsors’ signatures must be witnessed by the Returning Officer or a Justice of the Peace. The supporters’ signatures must be witnessed by anyone on the Register of Electors. Sponsors and supporters must not sponsor/support more than 12 candidates.
