FATALITY ABOARD MFV AMALIA

UPDATE

Further to the press release issued yesterday, Wednesday 13 July 2016, the St Helena Police Service has confirmed that the MFV Amalia arrived at St Helena and docked alongside Rupert’s Permanent Wharf at approximately 02.30hrs this morning, Thursday 14 July 2016.

The crew disembarked the vessel and were interviewed by the Police before being reunited with their families.  Initial examinations were carried out onboard the vessel which is now cordoned off and will remain in situ at Rupert’s Wharf where further investigations continue today.

The deceased was moved by ambulance to the Hospital, and the family were briefed on arrangements and the process for certifying the death.  The circumstances of this tragic fatality will be determined by the Police and the Coroner.

The Police would like to thank the community of St Helena for their support and help during this ongoing investigation and reminds the public to please respect the privacy of family members during this time.
