EXCO REPORT – TUESDAY 18 SEPTEMBER 2018

Executive Council met today with one item on the closed agenda which was to discuss a proposal to give additional financial support to the St Helena Fisheries Corporation. In discussion, Council noted the updated Fisheries Improvement Plan and commended the Corporation and the Working Group for the considerable amount of work which had gone into the development of this document. Members were mindful that an invitation had been issued for Expressions of Interest from potential investors interested in investing in fisheries and agreed that further debate about the future of fisheries will take place once the outcome of this exercise is known. Council reiterated their commitment to Fisheries as a key industry for the Island and approved the additional subsidy of £122,000 for the financial year 2018/19.

Under Any Other Business, Council agreed that the 2017 Report on the Review of Councillors’ Remuneration should be made public on the SHG website and noted that Governor Lisa Honan, Councillor Christine Scipio O’Dean and Councillor Derek Thomas would be attending this year’s Joint Ministerial Council meeting in London in December.

The meeting closed at 12.25.
