The following is a reminder to all Learner Drivers and their Driving Instructors:
- Before using a motor vehicle on a road, the driver must have a current and up-to-date Driver’s Licence for the correct class of vehicle they intend to drive
- The motor vehicle is in a roadworthy condition and the vehicle licence or MOT is current and up-to-date
- The driver of the motor vehicle is covered by a valid insurance policy
- The Driving Instructor has held that class of licence for at least two years and is covered by the vehicle’s insurance policy
If any of the conditions above are not met and a vehicle is still being used on a road, this will constitute an offence under the Road Traffic Ordinance and Motor Vehicles (Third Party Insurance) Ordinance respectively.
As part of the Driving Competency Test, the Driving Examiner will require the Learner Driver to produce proof of their Provisional Driver’s Licence, Vehicle Licence and Insurance, and will check that the vehicle is safe to be used on a road before the commencement of the test. If the Learner Driver is not able to produce these documents, the test will be postponed.
The St Helena Driving Examiner has an important role in working with the community to ensure public safety. If an offence has been committed he has the right to cancel the test and report the matter to the Police.
