COUNCILLORS TO ATTEND WESTMINSTER SEMINAR IN LONDON

Councillors Cyril Leo and Kylie Hercules will attend the 2017 Westminster Seminar on Parliamentary Practice & Procedure, to be held at the Houses of Parliament in London from 13-17 November 2017.

The Westminster Seminar is the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK’s flagship capacity-building programme and is aimed at first-term parliamentarians and newly-appointed procedural/committee clerks from across the Commonwealth.

The annual five-day programme provides a unique platform for participants to network and engage with counterparts; exploring differing approaches to parliamentary democracy, practice, and procedure, in the context of the Westminster System and comparative Commonwealth parliamentary structures and to develop skills and abilities to carry out the work of a parliamentarian.

Councillor Leo said:

“I am looking forward to the experience and the opportunity to see politics at work at Westminster level. I hope that in the process I will get the opportunity to engage with Members of Parliament and maintain links that will assist me as I contribute to securing a brighter future for the people of St Helena.”

Councillor Leo will depart the Island on Saturday, 11 November, and meet up with Councillor Hercules who is currently overseas attending the 63rd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
