Councillor Derek Thomas will depart the Island on Saturday 19 September 2015, to attend CPA Executive Committee meeting and the CPA 61st General Assembly in Westminster, London, running from Thursday 1 October to Monday 5 October 2015.
In addition to the main Executive Committee meeting, there will also be discussions in sub-committees, where Councillor Thomas is a member of the group which discusses Finance.
Councillor Thomas said:
“Participating in both the Finance subcommittee and attending the Executive Committee has developed my understanding of Parliamentary practices and issues involving Commonwealth countries.”
As a member of the CPA Executive Committee, Cllr Thomas will be able to follow up on personal discussions with the Executive Committee regarding funding for projects that meet the CPA funding criteria.
On his return to St Helena, whilst in transit on Ascension Island, Councillor Thomas is planning to hold public meetings and one to one sessions including a meeting with Ascension Island Council.
