Another successful end-of-year tournament for the Primary Schools

The three primary schools – St Pauls (SPPS), Pilling (PPS) and Harford (HPS) – participated in their annual end of year Sports Tournament on Monday, 5 August 2019. This year pupils participated in Cricket and Rounders tournaments.

Cricket Competition

The Cricket competition was held in the Prince Andrew School Hall for the first time this year. It was felt that playing indoors would make the game more interesting and more competitive. Overall the game was played in high spirits with some outstanding performances. Captain for PPS, Blaze Baldwin, picked up the Player of the Tournament with 26 runs (batting), two wickets for 23 (bowling) a catch and a run out. Outstanding fielding and catching went to Sheldon Phillips from PPS who had two catches and used the correct techniques when fielding. The person who made the most runs was Toure’ Osborne with 37 runs consisting of five sixes and a four.

Match results were as follows:

PPS 122 for 7 (15 overs) vs SPPS 80 all out
HPS 91 for 8 (15 overs) vs PPS 93 for 1 (7.3 overs)
SPPS 128 for 3 (15 overs) vs HPS 31 all out

The overall results were:

1st place – PPS (6 points)

2nd place – SPPS (4 points)

3rd place – HPS (2 points)

Rounders Tournament

The Primary Schools’ Rounders Tournament took place on Francis Plain. All pupils played very well and represented their school proudly. They displayed great team spirit and sportsmanship. All matches consisted of two innings of 20 good balls. Katelyn Benjamin of PPS took the awards for being the Player of the Tournament and for the most catches. Raylisha Piek achieved the award for Most Rounders. The matches were very competitive and the final scores were very close.

The match results were:

SPPS (13) vs PPS (9)
PPS (9 ½ ) vs HPS (9)
SPPS (12 ½ ) vs HPS (8)

Pilling and Harford then did a play-off for 2nd and 3rd positions.

Overall results were:

1st place – SPPS

2nd place – PPS

3rd place – HPS

Thanks are extended to Mr Scott Crowie and Mr Andrew Yon for organising and umpiring the Cricket and Mrs Christine Caswell and Mrs Barbara Osborne for umpiring the Rounders.

A thank you also to parents for the support and encouragement given to the children. Well done and thank you to all staff and pupils. You made your school proud in the way that you showed good sportsmanship and participated in the tournament.
