Domestic and Commercial Waste Collection and Disposal

WMS undertakes domestic and commercial waste collection Monday to Friday (including Public Holidays). 

Waste is usually collected using the Refuse Collection Vehicle’s but can be supplemented with the Land Rover and Trailer when required e.g. during RCV maintenance periods. The RCV‘s are operated with a three person crew and the Utility Vehicle with a minimum of two person crew.

Domestic and commercial waste collection is undertaken simultaneously. Shops and Bars in Jamestown have their waste collected on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The current waste collection routes are as follows (subject to change);

Monday

RCV 1: Start at Barracks Square, Constitution Hill, Ruperts, Two Gun Saddle, Sea View, Gordon’s Post, Woodlands and back to Gordon’s Post, Alarm Forest and Longwood (either Piccolo Hill or Bottom Woods). Continue to HPLS where the RCV is emptied and cleaned.

During waste collection this crew undertakes the following; litter-pick Ruperts beach and local area, wash communal and litter bins and clean Ruperts public toilets.

RCV 2: Start at Barracks Square, down to the Wharf via Narra Backs, Seafront, Main Street, Napoleon Street, Briars, Ruperts (if required), Deadwood and Colt Sheds, (either Piccolo Hill or Bottom Woods). Continue to HPLS where the RCV is emptied and cleaned.

During waste collection this crew undertakes the following; wash communal and litter bins, litter-pick Longwood Green and clean Longwood public toilets.

Tuesday

RCV 1: Start from the top of Ladder Hill, upwards to Wireless Station Road, Sundale, Cow Path, Solomon’s Supermarket, up to White Wall, Clay Gut, part of Sapper Way, Plantation Stables and Francis Plain. Continue to HPLS where the RCV is emptied and cleaned.

During waste collection this crew undertakes the following; wash communal and litter bins, litter-pick upper Half Tree Hollow and clean Half Tree Hollow public toilets.

RCV 2: Start at the top of Ladder Hill, Lower Half Tree Hollow, Rock Club and surrounding roads, A&D’s Shop, Alison’s Shop, Clinic Drive, Melvin’s Pick & Pay, Clinic Drive to White Wall, New Ground, Government Garage and Sapper Way. Continue to HPLS where the RCV is emptied and cleaned.

During waste collection this crew undertakes the following; clean Ladder Hill public toilets, wash communal and litter bins, litter-pick lower Half Tree Hollow and clean Plantation Stables public toilets.

Wednesday

RCV 1: Start at St Paul’s (Locklands), if weather is dry then Thompsons Wood (if weather is wet then Land Rover and Trailer collects from Thompsons Wood), Blue Hill, Barren Ground, Head O’Wain, Horse Pasture and Sandy Bay piggery and farm. Continue to HPLS where the RCV is emptied and cleaned.

RCV 2: Start in Jamestown, Wells, Sunberry, Woody Ridge, Levelwood areas (Red Hill, Tiger Lake and Bellstone), Silver Hill and Shop, The Flag, Tiger Lake Valley and St Helena Airport. Continue to HPLS where the RCV is emptied and cleaned.

During waste collection this crew undertakes the following; wash communal and litter bins, litter-pick Levelwood areas and clean Levelwood public toilets.

Land Rover and Trailer: Thompsons Wood (if the weather is wet) and rural Sandy Bay areas. Continue to HPLS where the trailer is emptied and cleaned.

During waste collection this crew undertakes the following; wash communal and litterbins and litter and tar ball-pick at Sandy Bay beach (dry weather only).

Thursday

RCV 1: Cleughs Plain (upper and lower), Trapp Cott, Guinea Grass to Rosemary Plain, Farm Buildings, St Paul’s Cathedral, Pounceys, High Knoll and down to White Wall, Knollcombes to Dungeon. Continue to HPLS where the RCV is emptied and cleaned.

During waste collection this crew undertakes the following; wash communal and litter bins and litter-pick areas.

RCV 2: Rosemary Plain, Cracked Plain and Thompsons Hill. Continue to HPLS where the RCV is emptied and cleaned.

During waste collection this crew undertakes the following; wash communal and litter bins, litter-pick Rosemary Plain and clean Rosemary Plain public toilets.

Friday

RCV 1: Barracks Square to New Bridge, Ladder Hill communal bins and Ladder Hill Complex, CCC and Half Tree Hollow Shops. Continue to HPLS where the RCV is emptied and cleaned.

During waste collection this crew undertakes the following; wash communal and litter bins, litter-pick Longwood Green and clean Longwood public toilets.

RCV 2: Barracks Square to the Wharf (via Narra Backs), Sea Front, Main Street, Napoleon Street, Check bins at Two Gun Saddle, Gordon’s Post, Piccolo Hill, Bottom Woods and Reggie’s Takeaway. Continue to HPLS where the RCV is emptied and cleaned.

During waste collection this crew undertakes the following; wash communal and litter bins, litter-pick Ruperts Beach and clean Ruperts public toilets.

Weekends and Public Holidays

RCV 1: following public events e.g. St Helena Day, Carnival etc. and at weekends which include a Public Holiday, the RCV may be used to empty bins in Jamestown, especially focusing on shops and bars and street litter bins. Continue to HPLS where the RCV is emptied and cleaned.
